Esterhuysenia drepanophylla is not well-known as it grows on higher mountain slopes in a limited part of the Western Cape. The pink-purple mesemb also went by several other names until fairly recently. A whirlwind of names does not detract from the plant's charm or composure. Encountering it in flower among the rocks and fynbos is something special (Leistner, (Ed.), 2000; Smith, et al, 1998; iNaturalist).
