    Gladiolus woodii flaunting anthers

    Gladiolus woodii flaunting anthers
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Judd Kirkel Welwitch

The three oblong anthers tipping the stamens of a Gladiolus woodii flower tend to point forward, the three-branched style tip above them staying close to the inside of the dorsal tepal. The anthers become from 6 mm to 9 mm long, the style branches 3,5 mm to 5 mm.

The dorsal tepals of flowers of this plant also have yellow at their tips as do the small, lower laterals; the upper laterals undecided about bearing yellow.

Most tepals in picture have small mid-point mucros on their margins, sometimes accentuated in colour or size (Goldblatt and Manning, 1998; Pooley, 1998; Trauseld, 1969; iNaturalist).
