Tritonia bakeri subsp. lilacina is a cormous perennial, a winter-growing geophyte that reaches about 45 cm in height. The corm tunic is fibrous. There are usually three long and very narrow leaves.
The subspecies distribution is mainly in the east of the Western Cape and the west of the Eastern Cape, the Little Karoo and particularly the south of the Swartberg Mountains to the west of the Langkloof.
The habitat is montane fynbos, renosterveld and grassy embankments; the plants not often seen. The subspecies is not considered to be threatened in its habitat early in the twenty first century (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Moriarty, 1997; iNaturalist; https://www.pacificbulbsociety.org; http://redlist.sanbi.org).
