Tylecodon similis flower from above

Seen from the top, the erect Tylecodon similis flower allows a glimpse onto the five carpels of the ovary, the innermost ring of the floral parts. The five style tips or white, globose stigmas are conspicuous in the photo, mostly unavoidable to insects aiming for the inside of the flower in search of nourishment.

White lobe frills and yellow anthers will mostly serve as landing sites for the incoming airborne traffic. That prepares them for brushes with stigmas, preferably of other flowers than where they uploaded pollen.
