Brunsvigia orientalis is a winter growing, bulbous perennial reaching heights around 45 cm when in flower. Large, prostrate leaves appear around midautumn and last until spring. The flowers come only late in summer when the leaves are dry.
The species distribution of this South African endemic confined to the Western Cape is mainly coastal.
The habitat is sandy flats. The species is not considered to be threatened in its habitat early in the twenty first century (Duncan, et al, 2016; Manning, 2007; iNaturalist; http://redlist.sanbi.org).
