Fockea capensis dull flower

The curling corolla lobes of the Fockea capensis flower have lost some brightness from their yellow and also the usual rotational effect in the corolla, as floral age is setting in.

The pedicel is about 3 mm long, the bell-shaped corolla tube up to 4 mm and the lobes up to 8 mm long. The sepals are lance-shaped, the corolla hairy on both surfaces.

The white corona arising from the base of the corolla tube is about 4 mm long, tubular in its lower half, splitting into five segments in the upper part with sometimes split or otherwise divided teeth alternating with them. The anthers have appendages exceeding the corona tube.

The usual summer flowering of the species may continue into autumn (Frandsen, 2017; Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; iNaturalist; http://www.llifle.com).
