The flowerheads of Othonna species nova (vanillodora) grow solitary on naked peduncles that are about 15 cm long.
Less than ten elliptic, yellow ray florets spread to a diameter of about 3 cm around the central yellow disc that comprises numerous, tiny disc florets. The heads exude a strong vanilla scent that brought about the proposed scientific name of vanillodora.
Flowering happens in spring (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015).
