Montane grassland of the southern Drakensberg is home to Disa stricta. It rains here in summer, snows in winter and the dry grass often burns some time after its growing season. These tuberous perennials sprout afresh annually on the grassy slopes in spring, not bothered by winter fire that happened earlier.

The erect stems are taller than the narrow leaves (Pooley, 1998; iNaturalist; https://www.pacificbulbsociety.org).
