Ornithogalum juncifolium leaves

The slender, ribbed and tufted leaves of Ornithogalum juncifolium have sheathing bases. The blades are sometimes twisted. They are present during flowering and persist as dark brown basal fibres. They are up to 30 cm long and 3 mm wide.

The specific name, juncifolium, is derived from the Latin words iuncus meaning a rush and folium meaning a leaf, referring to the resemblance of the leaves to rushes or reeds (Euston-Brown and Kruger, 2023; Curtis-Scott, et al, 2020; Pooley, 1998; Andrew, 2017; iNaturalist).
