Branched from the base and not much after that the Glumicalyx montanus perennial grows leafy stems, erect in their upper parts. In season many of the stem tips are crowned with inflorescences.

An inflorescence starts off globose, about 1,5 cm in diameter, but as in the photo, elongation may occur with old parts lower down browned while fruiting. The oblong to elliptic corolla lobes are yellow, often showing white on the sides (Springer, 2019: The role of pollinators as ecological drivers of diversification in the Drakensberg Mountain Centre endemic genus Glumicalyx (Scrophulariaceae, Limoselleae), University of the Witwatersrand; Trauseld, 1969; iNaturalist; JSTOR; http://redlist.sanbi.org).
