Hermannia coccocarpa, commonly called the pink dollsrose and the moederkappie (mother bonnet) in Afrikaans, is a low-growing, spreading shrublet reaching 25 cm in height. The specific name, coccocarpa, is derived from the Greek words kokkos meaning berry or grain and karpos meaning fruit, stating that the plant’s fruits are round.

The distribution is widespread, occurring in all South African provinces apart from Gauteng and Limpopo in the north; also found in some neighbouring countries.

The habitat is succulent Karoo, scrubveld, bushveld and grassland. The habitat population is deemed of least concern early in the twenty first century (Euston-Brown and Kruger, 2023; iNaturalist; http://redlist.sanbi.org).
