    Pterygodium nigrescens short spike

    Pterygodium nigrescens short spike
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Judd Kirkel Welwitch

In this short Pterygodium nigrescens inflorescence spike, most of the dark flowers are fully open, all their sepals, petals and lips dark brown by now. The bracts subtending but passing them by, are pale greenish cream.

The flowers are always densely together, sometimes more numerous than here. The flower spikes are usually about 13 cm long (Liltved and Johnson, 2012; Manning, 2009; Pooley, 1998; iNaturalist).
