Phygelius aequalis at home in nature
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Judd Kirkel Welwitch

In habitat Phygelius aequalis plants thrive in shade, near water, among rocks high on mountain slopes. The photo is from the KwaZulu-Natal Drakensberg.

Sunbirds are well equipped to obtain nectar from the long tubes and play an important role in the plant’s pollination. But so do bees and butterflies (Manning, 2009; Pooley, 1998; iNaturalist; https://pza.sanbi.org).
