    Delosperma leendertziae small buds
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Judd Kirkel Welwitch

The lush Delosperma leendertziae plant is producing small, straight-stalked buds at stem-tips, joining the already open flowers. A bud has short, leaf-like sepal lobes erect over the bulging ovary, in picture browner than the leaves.

The fully developed leaf-pairs below stem-tips angle up. Smaller leaves or new branches appear from their axils.

Persistent dead branches of a previous season show how the few-flowered clusters of earlier inflorescences had been structured (Smith, et al, 1998; Van Wyk and Malan, 1997; iNaturalist).
