The compact Delosperma ashtonii plant is flowering at erect stem-tips that cohere closely. The long, lance-shaped leaves, keeled and green are erect, borne close to the stems. Such apparent vigilance by a plant resembling animal hunting or watchful mode is rarely encountered.
The flowers are about white on their petals here, the pinkish colouring shows from the filaments of staminodes more than stamens in the flower centres. Plants bearing pinker petals can be observed in iNaturalist (Pooley, 1998; iNaturalist; https://www.researchgate.net; https://www.worldfloraonline.org).
