Diplosoma retroversum, commonly known in Afrikaans as eendvoetvygie (duckfoot mesemb), is a succulent dwarf perennial of about 3 cm tall that forms small ground-level clumps as it ages. Duckfoot mesemb might suit as a common name. The root system is short and fibrous. The plants are dry in their summer dormant season, growing in winter.
The species distribution is in the northwest of the Western Cape, in an area delineated by Piketberg, Grey's Pass, Eendekuil and Piekenierskloof Pass.
The habitat is quartzite shrubland, shale renosterveld and sandy fynbos. The habitat population is deemed threatened early in the twenty first century, due to wheat farming and housing settlements. No part of the population grows in a protected area (Frandsen, 2017; Leistner, (Ed.), 2000; Smith, et al, 1998; iNaturalist; https://www.worldfloraonline.org; http://redlist.sanbi.org).
