The old Lampranthus fugitans fruit capsule is dry and woody in the photo. The one open valve reveals that the seeds are probably or mostly dispersed already. It is thought that this species uses the hygrochastic seed dispersal method by which capsules open when wet and close when dry, dispersing ripe seeds in batches after rain (Smith, et al, 1998; iNaturalist).
