Hairiness can dominate in Stapelia hirsuta var. hirsuta, although not on all plants. This partly depends on subregions of the distribution range.
The “dense beard” is in picture concentrated in the central part of the bulging corolla. The fleshy lobes pointing down are hairless and densely, while randomly maroon ridged on a cream background.
