    Promise of an Esterhuysenia drepanophylla flower to come is securely covered by five purple-tipped sepals, more angular than the leaves in picture. The pointed purple tips of the leaves vary in the size of their purple parts, green being more dominant on some.

    Lush and succulent beyond fleshy, the plant contains ample moisture for its imminent floral commitments. The desiccated bits are discards of flowering and fruiting from previous years (Leistner, (Ed.), 2000; Smith, et al, 1998; iNaturalist).
