Lampranthus stenopetalus is a leaf succulent, a shrublet growing smooth branches to heights around 25 cm. The growth habit is somewhat erect, spreading a little, the upper stems often dark red and sometimes yellowish.

The species distribution is in the far southwest of the Western Cape only, from near Graafwater to the Cape Peninsula and Worcester.

The habitat is lowland sandy fynbos. The habitat population is deemed vulnerable early in the twenty first century, due to habitat loss and invasive alien vegetation (Smith, et al, 1998; iNaturalist; Wikipedia; https://asknature.org; https://www.worldfloraonline.org; http://redlist.sanbi.org).
