The pedicel of a Spetaea lachenaliiflora flower is blue, cylindrical, fleshy and straight or close to that, slightly thicker near the stem than at the cup. No bracts or other paraphernalia complicate its connecting function between stem and perianth base.
The cup part of a perianth is appropriately labelled for nearly half the tepal length. Above that tepal tips spread or recurve in their own time, no disciplined drill applying here. The filament tips diverge only slightly.
Old flowers wither into deformities resembling insect bodies, as the tepal leftovers persist. Blackening after flowering may also happen (Manning, 2007; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; iNaturalist).
