The simple, opposite leaves of Syncolostemon rotundifolius have no stipules. The petioles are from 2 mm to 5 mm long, not so much seen unless prying aided by fingers exposes them.
The blades are occasionally rounded as the specific name indicates. From the photo it seems as if not all the leaves know this feature as a requirement, as some are broadly elliptic, subrotund or even ending in pointed tips. A name or label may impose rigidity, even as an enduring burden, while the living entity may be freer, expressing a whole spectrum.
The margins of S. rotundifolius leaves are coarsely toothed to scalloped and curving up along the sides. The variably green, grey green and yellow green blades are soft, slightly coarse and faintly short-haired. The spaced lateral veins ascend to the margins where they become faint and may branch (Pooley, 1998; iNaturalist; https://pza.sanbi.org).
