Erica inaequalis is commonly called the unequal heath, sometimes the nutfruit heath, and previously scientifically Simocheilus glaber, also E. glabra. It is an erect or sprawling, single-stemmed shrublet reaching heights from 10 cm to 40 cm. Numerous short-shoots are usually grown.
The species distribution is from the southwest of the Northern Cape, the Kamiesberg southwards to the northwest of the Western Cape around the Gifberg, and as far as Worcester.
The habitat is dry, rocky slopes and sandy flats. The habitat population is deemed of least concern early in the twenty first century (Manning and Helme, 2024; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; iNaturalist; https://www.worldfloraonline.org; http://redlist.sanbi.org).
