Roella ciliata

Roella ciliata is an erect or sprawling shrublet reaching heights from 15 cm to 60 cm.

The small, narrow leaves are stiff and awl-like, ending in sharp tips. Their margins are whiskered or bristly, midribs bulging on the lower surfaces. The foliage covers the branches densely like clothed arms.

The flowers in picture are nearly erect, slightly angled outwards.

The species distribution is in the far southwest of the Western Cape, from the Cape Peninsula to near Worcester and along the coast to beyond Agulhas.

The habitat is sandy or rocky lower slopes. The habitat population is deemed of least concern early in the twenty first century (Manning, 2007; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; iNaturalist; https://pza.sanbi.org; http://redlist.sanbi.org).
