This Erepsia inclaudens plant has many more fruit capsules, green as well as ripe, on display than flowers. It lives in the veld near Hermanus, met by the camera during November.
Few leaves see the sun here among all the flowers and fruits. Visibility of so many old fruits amidst the paucity of leaves tells that the plant hasn’t been growing much recently. Yet it is sustaining performance in seed production at full tilt. One may well wonder for how many more of its late in the year flowering seasons such sacrificial exuberance can be sustained (Manning, 2007; iNaturalist).
