Orthochilus foliosus leaves

Orthochilus foliosus leaves
Author: Ivan Lätti
Photographer: Judd Kirkel Welwitch

This Orthochilus foliosus plant has leaves taller than its inflorescence. The leaves may be fully or only partly grown at flowering. The stiff, narrow blades appear ridged, the veins deeply indented. Shorter leaves, growing from the flowering stem nodes, are already brown in the photo.

The flowering stem in picture emerges from the sandy soil close to but separate from the leaf shoot (Pooley, 1998; iNaturalist).
