    Drosanthemum hispidum leaves and flowers

    Drosanthemum hispidum leaves and flowers
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Judd Kirkel Welwitch

The worm-like, cylindrical leaves in opposite pairs of the Drosanthemum hispidum mesemb are erect to in-curving. Their rounded tips even suggest a slight club-shape. Some worms have big heads. The usual water cell glistening on the papillae surfaces is on display, rendering the leaves in picture a dull grey-green.

The oblanceolate petals appear sparse in their single whorl narrowness. White at the base emphasises the scarceness in the corolla (Van Rooyen and Van Rooyen, 2019; iNaturalist).
