Aulax umbellata inner bracts lobed

The involucral bracts around the stem-tip flowerhead on this Aulax umbellata female bush are progressively longer further away from the florets in the centre. Bract tip tapering varies from abruptly on the outside ones to gradually on those on the inside of the involucre. The inner row of bracts seen here have acutely pointed lobes, not single tips like those in the outer whorls.

The oblong to lanceolate, whitish perianth lobes of the individual florets in the centre have recurved already after their recent opening. The elongated, brown-tipped stigmas, previously pollen presenters, are conspicuous at the tips of the whitish styles (Manning, 2007; Rebelo, 1995; iNaturalist; https://pza.sanbi.org).
