Bauhinia galpinii green fruit pod

The green fruit, the pod of Bauhinia galpinii in picture has a long brown arching pedicel. At its base there is a short, faster curving pod tip, as green as part of the pod margins. The pendulous pod is quite flat here, suggesting that the seeds inside still have to grow. The pod is wider near the tip than the base.

Fruits generally differ totally from the flowers from which they grew, as they develop from the ovaries, specialised parts mostly unseen during bloomtime (Manning, 2009; Coates Palgrave, 2002; Pooley, 1993; iNaturalist).
