Erica vestita floral features

This Erica vestita inflorescence gives some indication of the velvety covering of the finest of hairs upon the young colourful corollas. The four corolla lobes are short and round-tipped, flaring slightly wider than the long, curved tube. In fully developed buds these lobes are darker on their closed outside surfaces than the tubes. The open flowers have shortly exserted, white styles ending in small dark stigmas. The younger buds appear straighter here than in the mature flowers.

One corolla can be spotted with lobes still closed but the hurrying style already exserted. The longest style part visible protrudes, still straight, from a desiccated flower low down (Manning and Helme, 2024; Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Manning, 2009; iNaturalist).
