Schotia afra var. afra green pod

The green Schotia afra var. afra fruit pod may have conspicuous constrictions between the flattish seeds growing inside. With rounding and elegant rim added, the pod resembles a violin shape. Its colour changes from green or pink to brown may not be a musical feature but are certainly notable to some aesthetes, possibly even insects.

There are usually only two or three seeds in a pod. Seed dispersal is enhanced by the explosive bursting of the ripe pods, catapulting the seeds fair distances from the parent plant (Venter, 2012; Coates Palgrave, 2002; iNaturalist; https://www.worldfloraonline.org).
