Enough, a feast or too much?

When the blessings overflow, the satisfaction drowns. Humanity needs so many things to live comfortably that it might feel ashamed of its copious dependencies. And every one of those needs has to be fulfilled to just the required extent. Hit the small interval on the universal scale of almost everything thinkable, and Jack is all right. Chutzpah is us!

But, Your Honour, all the other living species are the same! They die from too much or too little of everything they live on.

Since we aren’t getting any further with this line of thinking, let’s marvel at the delicacy of life. There is wonder in all the living around us, in spite of the ever-present odds in nature. Whenever one of the limits on one of the relevant variables for any of the extant species is exceeded, oodles of deaths promptly follow. Yet, the remainder, the ones still there, think everything that matters is still alive. For that’s what they are looking at! Where might the rest be?

Protection from the unknown, the obvious trampling-prone elephant in the vicinity, the room in the open, is a defence mechanism that works. Just don’t think about it, and breathe.
