The Edmondia sesamoides flowerheads not showing their disc florets yet qualify as buds; an inclusive designation for promising structures of many kinds in nature.
These buds are easily called white, but there are so many close-to-white shades upon them that competition among the whiter-than-white spots belie the appellation, relegating them all to off-white. The main contenders are here positioned at the extremes, up top at some incurving tips, and inside the bases of some wide-spreading outer bracts.
It must be the pale greys that start such controversies? In the meantime, the observer may call a truce by finding them all beautiful collectively, as parents end quarrels among children, and other peacemakers do among adults acting like children.
