    Erica sessiliflora many-stemmed bush

    Erica sessiliflora many-stemmed bush
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Francelle van Zyl

Yellow-green stem-tip knobs of compact Erica sessiliflora leaf tufts show the latest response of the bush to rain. Many recent branchings have occurred as the shrub carries on enlarging.

Some stem-tips present inflorescences, the pale greenish white buds of many lengths show some darkened tips where anthers wait to see the light. Some old stems end in leafy growth above fruit spike sections in which a few darkened, dry corolla tubes are retained, caught between the fleshy fruit bodies. The fruits are pale like the buds but beige rather than greenish (Manning and Helme, 2024; Manning 2009; iNaturalist).
