Anaxeton asperum subsp. asperum grows into a lowly spreading shrublet, given time. The small, woody Asteraceae shrublet occurs on sandy and stony mountain slopes in the Cape fynbos flowering throughout the year.
It may be guessed to become at least five years old. Some won’t argue when an upper limit of fifteen years is given. But this land is fynbos, remember? It has natural fire cycles affecting plant longevity. It also has people who cause more frequent fires than nature.
The plant shares the uncertainty of all life. Flowering today. What happens tomorrow?
