    Metalasia erubescens floral restaurant

    Metalasia erubescens floral restaurant
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Francelle van Zyl

The sparsely branched Metalasia erubescens shrublet produces pink to lilac stem-tip inflorescences, well-spaced at similar heights. Once they are on the bush, these floral food sources require small flights from visiting bees, beetles and flies that forage in tight circuits.

The narrow, blue-green leaves below ascend on erect, whitish branches up to the flowers (Bean and Johns, 2005; iNaturalist).
