Shiny green Ochna serrulata buds, as well as purplish red new leaves have here emerged from axils of the grey, woody, upper stem. Mature leaves have short petioles holding their glossy upper surfaces mainly horizontally. The creamy midribs are prominent on the upper surfaces, usually on both. The fine lateral veins are closely spaced, ascending slightly to the margins. Net-veining is visible (Venter, 2012; Coates Palgrave, 2002; Pooley, 1993; iNaturalist).
