    Ochna serrulata bush in flower

    Ochna serrulata bush in flower
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Francelle van Zyl

Profuse yellow flowering is on occasion produced by the densely branched Ochna serrulata tree. The one in picture is not particularly rich in foliage at the time of the photo, but some new leaves may grow when the flowering chore becomes less demanding.

    O. serrulata is often a single-stemmed tree or shrub but may also be multistemmed from the base. Presumably the woody underground part then allows the plant to resprout when the above-ground component is destroyed by fire or some other cause (Venter, 2012; Coates Palgrave, 2002; Pooley, 1993; iNaturalist; https://treesa.org).
