    Erica baccans floral development

    Erica baccans floral development
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Francelle van Zyl

The early clusters of Erica baccans buds at stem-tips are white with faint green keels on the sepals. The sepals turn brown as they grow. At one stage the sepals don't adhere to the corollas. Then the buds turn pink, including the sepals, and the flowers open. The nodding of the flowers starts once the pedicels elongate sufficiently. The stamens show black in open flowers, remaining included inside the corollas (Manning and Helme, 2024; Manning, 2007; iNaturalist; https://pza.sanbi.org).
