    Bolboschoenus maritimus spikelets

    Bolboschoenus maritimus spikelets
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Francelle van Zyl

Spikelet length can vary much in an inflorescence cluster of Bolboschoenus maritimus. The tiny florets in the spikelets are single-sexed, but florets of both sexes occur within the same spikelet, not segregated into separate male and female spikelets. The lower flowers of a spikelet are predominantly female, the upper ones predominantly male (Curtis-Scott, et al, 2020; Leistner, (Ed.), 2000; Pooley, 1998; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; iNaturalist; https://pza.sanbi.org).
