This Aloe comptonii plant photographed in October bloomed well enough, but not much seed was set judging from the drying flower stalks. Just as leaf growth and flowering seasons vary, seed forming is not equally favoured by the conditions prevailing in every season.
The ripe capsules will split open, still releasing a large number of seeds. If conditions during germination and growth are favourable, a poor yield may well deliver a worthwhile number of new plants. Life is much about hope (Frandsen, 2017; Van Wyk and Smith, 2003; iNaturalist).
