Ornithoglossum undulatum dull yellow anthers, long styles

This flower of Ornithoglossum undulatum is white with maroon-purple petal tips. The petals may also be pink with cerise-red tips. Five of the six petals are arranged in a row, pointing upwards. In this photo the remaining petal is just visible, veering to the left below. The petals are folded near the base where they retain nectar for the pollen trade. 

The six white filaments of the stamens taper and curve towards their purple tips where they hold up the yellowish, oblong anthers. The point of attachment of the anther to the filament tip is just off-centre.

The three-locular ovary is superior, its three styles thread-like, long and thin, curving out in picture below the stamens.

The flowers grow in a raceme and have long pedicels. Flowering takes place from autumn to winter. The fruit is a six-segmented green capsule (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Shearing and Van Heerden, 2008; www.pacificbulbsociety.org).
