Indigofera heterotricha

The flowers of Indigofera heterotricha grow in short lax racemes. The calyx segments are long, thin and green with acute tips bending backwards away from the corolla.

The pale pink petals are darker near the base. The back or upper petal, the standard or banner, has a dark line and a fold in the centre up to its tip, as well as a few shorter faint lines spreading from the base, some distance upwards. The keel petals are folded together, visible in the centre between the two lateral petals or wings that are broad, rounded and turned up, facing the standard.

The pods that follow the flower are cylindrical, about 1,5 cm in length. They split, i.e. are dehiscent when ripe to release about eight seeds (www.kyffhauser.co.za).
