Pterygodium magnum flowers grow in a dense cylindrical spike. The flowers are small and numerous.
The whitish lip of this orchid faces downward with a fringed margin. There are similar fringes on the pair of lateral petals. These petals are erect, nearly round but for the straight base. Two pollen sacs are positioned at the end of the horseshoe-shaped part of the column in the flower centre.
Flowering commences in summer and continues until early autumn (www.plantzafrica.com; Manning, 2009).
