On this developing flowerhead of Brunsvigia orientalis where the flowers have not yet opened, the thickness of the flattened scape or stalk of the inflorescence can be appreciated. The two membranous bracts that fell open to release the lengthening buds are prominent. Each bud is long and thin with a tapering tip. Note how some ovaries are already bulging at the tips of the pedicels. The pedicels of the individual flowers are still quite green here, colour that will turn to a reddish shade quite soon.
