Mesembryanthemum oculatum stringy branches

This Mesembryanthemum oculatum plant shows the creeping habit the species is also capable of, less than a mat but more than a mound. Long trailing branches may present many flowers among rocks early in spring in northern Namaqualand.

The stems and leaves appear more tired than the flowers. Plant longevity is often increased by the presence of a rock (Smith, et al, 1998; iNaturalist).
