The feathery, nearly prostrate leaves of Pelargonium triste grow mainly in a basal cluster. The narrowly segmented, divided leaves are covered in soft, whitish hairs. The younger leaves in picture are whiter than the older ones, appearing finer, maybe because some of the hairs have disappeared from the older, greener leaves.
A fully developed leaf is large, about 30 cm long and 25 cm wide. A few smaller leaves may occur on the lower part of the flower stem (Curtis-Scott, et al, 2020; Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Manning, 2007; Bean and Johns, 2005; iNaturalist; www.plantzafrica.com).
