The yellow or red torch orchid, as Disa chrysostachya is commonly known, is found in moist grassland and vlei areas in the Eastern Cape and northwards to Mpumalanga. Some pink flowers are occasionally seen.
Torch orchids receive pollination from sunbirds and other sources.
