Moraea neglecta

Moraea neglecta, commonly the yellow iris, the rush-leaved moraea and sometimes the gloaming tulp, is an erect, cormous perennial, reaching heights around 20 cm to 50 cm. The stem is sticky at its nodes. It grows just one quill-like leaf and an unbranched, rod-like flower stem annually.  

The distribution of the species is in the southwest of the Western Cape, from the south of Namaqualand to the Cape Peninsula and eastwards to Caledon and Hermanus. 

The habitat is fynbos on flats, usually in deep soil. The habitat population is deemed of least concern early in the twenty first century (Marais, (Ed.), 2017; Manning, 2007; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; iNaturalist; iSpot; http://redlist.sanbi.org).
