Pelargonium patulum is a sprawling or trailing shrublet sometimes reaching 50 cm in height, growing from a thickened, tuberous root. The trailing branches are soft and slender.
The distribution of this plant is in the southwest of the Western Cape, from the Cederberg to Paarl and from the Cape Peninsula to Swellendam on the Langeberg. This photo was taken in October in Bainskloof.
The habitat is sandstone slopes in fynbos, often in shade. The habitat population is considered of least concern early in the twenty first century (Manning, 2007; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; iNaturalist; iSpot; http://redlist.sanbi.org).
